AMC RETINA LABORATORY
Four professors with the retina specialty and their members collaborates closely in Asan Medical Center and Asan Institute for Life Science.
Asan Institute for Life Sciences was founded in 1990 at Asan Medical Center in Seoul under the mission of laying the foundation for creative research that will contribute to the advancement of medicine and ultimately the betterment of health and welfare of mankind.
Our AMC RETINA LABORATORY started 15 years ago, and has achieved many research achievements in the field of basic retina including neurobiology, vascular biology and gene therapy. As a team, our members actively collaborate within our members and external researchers for the comprehensive understanding of retinal physiology and mechanisms of vision-threatening retianl diseases.
The Team
Four PIs + Postdocs + graduate students

Young Hee Yoon
Professor
Director of AMC RETINA LABORATORY
Prof. Yoon is a global leader and distinguished scientist in the field of clinical and basic retina. Current her laboratory is interested in the homeostasis of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and its interaction with retinal neuroglia in term of metabolic waste clearance.

Joo Yong Lee
Professor
Vice director of AMC RETINA LABORATORY
Prof. Lee is an renowned retinal clinician and basic scientist. His research area includes gene or cell therapy for hereditary retinal disease and age-related macular degeneration. His lab has recently developed novel animal models for retinal degeneration.

Junyeop Lee
Assistant Professor
Prof. Lee is a active clinician scientist in the field of retina and vascular biology. He is studying how retina and choroid maintain normal structure function in terms of vascular homeostasis. His research interests include the ultrastructure of choroidal blood vessels and pericyte-endothelial interaction in the development of chorioretinal diseases.

Yoon Jeon Kim
Assistant Professor
Prof. Kim is an established retinal specialist. Her laboratory is studying to understand the mechanisms of retinal diseases using genetic approaches. She is developing a novel screening technology for searching biomarker of retinal diseases. Her research area includes regenerative medicine including stem cell biology.
